Health and Safety Professional



Mines can be hazardous environments and the possibility of fire, flood, explosion and collapse has the potential to simultaneously affect a large number of people.

It goes this way: health and safety professionals develop and coordinate safety and health systems and strategies within organizations. They are ones responsible in identifying hazards and risks in the workplace. Moreover, they are to maintain environmental aspects in health. This profession matures there is an increased emphasis on risk management strategy and on the development of workplace culture.

Many safety and health professional in the minerals industry may perform the following tasks:

Strategize occupational health and safety systems, including policies, procedures and manuals.

Communicate with management to report on the status of the health and safety strategy and risk management strategy.

Coordinate emergency procedures, mine rescues, fire fighting and first aid crews.

 Develop and implement training sessions for management, supervisors and workers on health and safety practices and legislation.

Help supervise the investigation of accidents and unsafe working conditions, study possible causes and recommend remedial action.

Make sure that the organization is aware of, and complies with, all legislation in relation to the use of its plant, equipment and substances, as well as in all workplace activities.

Promote occupational health and safety within their organization and develop safer and healthier ways of working.
